Horse racing? That wasn't the wording he was excepting. It seemed more like something seedy people would do. The whole horse racing thing made him think of dog racing which wasn't as popular here as it was in the states. Fencing had him frowning , he could use more skills. Why not try that one?

He shook his head at the offer feeling better once he had switched hand feeling better about the weight pressing down on his hand. He should be used to carrying things around. After all he did have two younger brothers and Damien. He knew how to carry some shit around after all.

"You speak very well. Almost word for word out of a book ." He looked back at Lor. "I don't mind, I was just curious." He shrugged showing that it didn't matter how much Lor wanted to share. He was willing to listen to listen either way. He blinked and lifted his nose to the air sniffing. Almost like if he was expecting Lor to share he was wiling to share back.

"Ah. I was very sheltered, I had private tutors and very strict parents." All of which was true. "Maybe that's why I ramble, not used to crowds of people, it's easier to be outside on my own." Also true, if you mean 'humans' when you said 'people'. "Plus, I may be... what's that word? When you don't like to be trapped by a lot of glass and steel?" His face bent into thoughtful lines as he tried to remember it, but he gave it up easily. It wasn't important.

He pushed his way ahead of Jon to clear a path and they came upon a pleasant scene. A small brook, barely enough to wet the rocks it passed around, had been damned by a fallen tree and aided by children it seemed who had blocked it off to create a small pond of sunlit murky green water.

"Oh!" Lor grinned and kicked off his shoes and walked into the edge of the water, mud squishing up between his toes. He looked up at Jon with a grin. "It's warm, like a bath." He said happily.

He blinked at the excuse rolling off the blonde's lips and thought about just not comment and letting it slip without pushing at it anymore than he already had. Of course that only lasted half a second if that. Already his mouth was open and it was like he had no censor before he started speaking. Which could have been bad if there were any other people hovering. He didn't know what the kid next to him was so chances were he might be taking his life into his hands at the moment.

"You don't smell human." He spoke bluntly not wanting to dance around what he knew. He didn't smell a lie but something wasn't matching up with what blondie was saying and what his hyena seemed to be telling him. The smell of water hit his nose and he let Lor step out on front of him telling himself it made sense to let him do that since the kid knew that area better than he did. He didn't need to twist an ankle or something girly while trying to do something as simple as getting water.

He gave a sigh and felt the stress melt off his form even more when the water came into sight. He grinned at the sight of Lor playing in the water like a little kid. He was guessing that the other male was about 25 but the sight in front of him made him knock a couple more years off his guessed age. "One step closer to getting my baby back on her feet." He kneel down by the water and stuff his bucket in trying to keep his balance as he gathered up water.

Lorcan knelt and let his fingers trail over the surface of the water, watching the ripples as they rebounded against other things like the stones and the sticks. It was a peaceful place and he'd like nothing better than to remove his clothes and swim, but he wasn't sure if that was totally acceptable.

He glanced over a the human and frowned slightly. "I don't know much about your car, but... a bit of cloth over the mouth of your jug could keep the leaves out... or does it run just as well with them?" He asked.

He found a stone and skipped it over the surface of the pond, his smile flashing across his face, but then he glanced at Jon. "What did you mean, 'smell human'? How do human's smell, and... what other things are there to smell like if not human but you look like one?" There was a flaw in his glamour, he realized. It was not good enough to sound and look like a human, one must apparently smell like one as well.

Even as Lor mentioned something about leaves in the water Jon was splashing a bit try to make sure nothing got into the jug. SO far so good. He blinked at the suggestion. He hadn't thought to bring anything with him so unless he wanted to strip off his shirt he was just going to have to make due with what he had. he was not willing to go topless so he offered a one shouldered shrug doing his best to make sure only water was going into the container and nothing else. "Nah. Not so much. It'd actually make the car run worse in fact."

After a moment he sat back resting on his heels as he knelt on the bank of the river before swinging his eyes over to the blonde. Seemed to the hyena that the kid was trying to distract Jon somehow. An eyebrow got arched at the line of questions. Still odd sounding but if he was home schooled with strict parents he guessed it was kind of normal. He didn't know anything about home schooled kids outside of what he saw on tv and in movies. "Humans smell.. well it'd hard to explain really. You smell to much like nature. So either your not human or you spend hours rolling around in the grass and stuff." He offered a shrug leaning forward to attempt to get more water in his container.

Lor paused in stillness to turn over the phrase 'too much like nature' in his mind, the water lapping around his ankles playfully. "I see." He said breaking his stillness to find another stone to skip.

"And what else is there to smell like? Besides human and too much nature?" He said the last with a twist of his lips and threw the stone with a twist of his body, watching it skip six times before sinking into the green water. And then, suddenly, he knew. He knew before there were things in the world that weren't human and looked human, but the day was so pleasant it made his thinking slow.

He looked at the human with newly opened eyes now. "You aren't human! That's why you could smell me, is it not? Oh, what a dunderhead I am for not picking up on that when you said it, and only thinking of my own lack!" He shook his fair head and laughed at himself lightly. How quickly the skills of court had fallen from him in the human world that he no longer looked for all the meanings of the simplest of phrases.

"So, kind sir, the question is now...what are you?" He smiled at the not quite human lad.

He was kneeling on the bank his arms holding onto the container as it slowly filled with water when Lor spoke again. His head snapped to the side and he carefully watched the blonde considering his next set of words. Yeah, he knew without a doubt this wasn't just some home schooled kid. If he had been he wouldn't have asked Jon that sort of question. Not to many parents raising sheltered kids went around talking about shifters and stuff. He gave a vague nod before finally standing. He had plenty of water now.

"Something like that I guess." He placed the container on the ground and wiped his hands dry on his jeans before looking back at Lor. "Tell you want. You tell me what you really are.. and I know you ain't human. And I'll say what I am. Seems like a fair deal to me." He had no problem outing himself it he was sure it wasn't to a human first or someone who would skin him rather than shake his hand. Sad enough that people like there were still out there roaming around. He waited wondering if Lor would agree or keep playing like he was human and Jon was stupid.

"What I really am..." Lor mused with a quirk of his lips and threw another stone to buy him him to muse over it. "What I really am is a wayward son, cast from home to learn my manners and see the error of my foolish ways. But that's not what you mean, is it?"

He looked around them and scooped up a handful of water and let the droplets fall from his hand, glittering in the sunlight as it was filtered through the leaves. "Don't you wish sometimes it was simple, to be what you are? Like water is water, stone is stone, tree is tree?" He glanced at Jon and then turned, to give him a courtly bow, the water licking at his ankles since he still stood in the pond.

"I am Lorcan, The House of Beartlaidh, Seelie Shidhe, Lord of Shifting Balances and," He said with a grin. "Wayward son of said house, exile and questor." Maybe it was foolish to give his whole title, but it amused him to do so, and Lorcan liked to be amused.

He didn't comment to the question given back to him merely crossing his arms over his chest and leaning most of his weight onto his right foot. He studied the blonde figuring if he really didn't want to say he didn't have to. After all he had already helped Jon find water which would get him back on his feet, no need to call anyone in to rescue him.

When he finally did get somewhat of a straight answer everything made a bit more sense. While he hadn't run into any Seelie himself he had heard from people how hard it was to get a straight answer out of them. He nodded accepting the answer. Fair was fair and he did offer the terms him. Unfolding his arms he stuck his hands into his pockets as he answered back. "I'm a Were-hyena. Not human, well not all of the time anyhow." His eyes drifted to the stream and looked back to Lor. " I take it you don't run into many shifters do ya?"

"Not human ones no." Lor answered and squatted down to captures some leaves and make little boats from them, and pushed them across the surface of the pond, their little leaf sails catching the small breeze and scooting across the pond under their own power.

"I've not long been in your world, so my smell was wrong to meet someone like you. Or do all human's smell others? I'd like to correct this flaw." He glanced up and smiled charmingly, the sunlight catching his fair hair. "You will show me?"

He stood again and waded back out of the water and slipped his shoes back one. "I will help you carry your water back as far as the fence. I do not do well with your machinery." Understatement, but then, the fey were masters of understatements.
